One of my fondest memories is from just a ‘few years ago’ when Ashely was knee deep in the terrible twos, approaching the horrific threes. She was a bundle of energy, bouncing like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, her large blue eyes twinkling, tiny little nose scrunched with excitement as she squealed ‘Appy Birfday’! Ahhh, from the mouth of babes. At this tender age she recognized the importance of celebrating the day we all came to be! A day that should always be celebrated.
July 1st, 2012 was the day LDD came to be. Eight years ago I opened Lisa Davenport Designs, today known as LDD Interiors. It is a day that still instills energetic dances that resemble animated characters from my childhood. It is a day, despite the uncertain times we are living in, that still makes my eyes sparkle with enthusiasm and my chest fill with such pride tears of joy often spill down my cheeks.
As we enter the second half of the first year in this new decade, I often look back and find inspiration in the humble beginnings of LDD. That rickety old card table, my cherished drafting table, and my laptop. The late nights when Joe and I sat on the floor of our first studio sharing dreams bigger than the Gulf of Mexico that would require ambition that ran deeper than the Atlantic Ocean. I smile and honestly wonder how we did it. Today when we don’t know what the next day, never mind the next month or year will bring, I’m encouraged by those early years of LDD. We are a design firm built on a solid foundation of not only exceptional talent, but also dedicated clients that have had unwavering faith in us. And we are full of innovativeness, determination, and resilience.
I believe we live in the greatest country in the world. The future is bright for LDD … and for all of us. Tonight, Joe and I will raise a glass and toast all of you who have supported LDD. We will celebrate the day LDD came to be… to wish us a ‘Appy Birfday’!
