Lisa’s Lovely Apple Pie

Makes 2 double crust pies

3 cups of flour 2 tbsp flour

1 cup butter flavored Crisco ¼ tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. salt ¼ tsp. nutmeg

2 tbsp. cider vinegar butter

1 cup cold water

7-9 pared & sliced apples (mix varieties, i.e. Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, Courtland)

½ cup sugar

Cut flour, shortening and salt into pieces until like coarse cornmeal

Combine vinegar & cold water (place in a bed of ice to keep super cold).

Add 4-5 tablespoons liquid to ¼ of flour mixture

Make into a ball & repeat

Place 4 balls wrapped in wax paper in refrigerator to chill.

Combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg in a separate bowl

Mix with apples until well coated

Roll out crusts on well-floured surface & place glass pie dish

Lay coated apples into crust, stack them, do not just dump them in

Place a few slabs on top of apples and cover with top crust

Now ’back in the day’ I used to blow a kiss into the pie before I place the top crust on… since the pandemic hit, I now just toss a little love and good wishes with a wave of my hand!

Trim and pinch edges and cut venting holes.

OR if you’re feeling adventurous do a lattice crust!

Bake at 450 for 10 mins reduce to 350 bake 30 minutes or until golden brown
